A new all request disk. Over one year in the making. It utilizes the “live drum” feature of Band-in-a-Box (V7.0g or higher required) to create some great grooves.

The lines that define different styles of music are not as distinct as they once were. The rhythm patterns which used to be reserved exclusively for Jazz are now showing up in Pop music with great frequency. Conversely, Rock, Rap and Pop Dance rhythms are appearing in both hard core Jazz and what has become known as Smooth Jazz. With the 70s, 80s and 90s migration of musicians from the Rock and Jazz world to Nashville, even Country and Western rhythms now have strong Blues, Dance and Jazz influences. This cross pollination has contributed to more variety and greater creative potential in each of these different types of music.

More than the rhythm, what defines these different genres of music are the chord progressions, melodies and words. Of course, those elements are added by you when you construct the song in BAND-IN-A-BOX and are not included in the styles. That fact makes this a very useful disk for all Jazz, Blues, Rock and Country musicians. Listen to the demo files and I know you will agree. What you hear is what you get!

Because Jazz, Pop, and R&B songs often use more than 4 chords per measure, or have one chord before the beat and another chord on the same beat, I have included a few EXPANDED styles. If you EXPAND your song in Band-in-a-Box, each measure in Band-in-a-Box is only a half measure in the EXPANDED styles -- so you can get twice as many chords in per measure.

Note: The audio MP3 files were recorded using Band-in-a-Box and the Edirol VSC3 Virtual Sound Canvas synthesizer. They were encoded at a low bit-rate and in mono so they will download fast, even for those with a dial-up connection. The low bit-rate results in low fidelity, but you will still be able to hear all the parts, and you won't have to wait long for the music to start. In most cases the demo plays only a few bars of the A section, a few bars of the B section, and the ending. In other words, what you hear is only a fraction of what you get.

Suggested musical applications for each style are written in RED:
• 16 Beat #2 (#16beat2.sty): Ever present in contemporary Rhythm and Blues, Smooth Jazz, and Pop tunes, this 16 beat is a workhorse featuring Slap Bass, Poly Synth, Muted E. Guitar and Square Wave Synth.
