The second in this disk / book series by Frank Mantooth and Norton Music (see Norton Music’s Fake Disk #8). 100 different great standard songs — no repeats — with the same criteria for the chord substitutions:

  1. they sound great
  2. the harmonic succession has a logical flow and is not haphazard or disjunct
  3. they do not clash with the original melody
  4. they enhance the original harmonic motion
  5. the melody will cadence in the original key.

There are 200 chord progressions on this disk. They include both the common usage (standard) chord progressions for the 100 tunes in the book, and the professionally altered chord progressions.

I also suggested a style for each song from all the styles that were available for Band-in-a-Box when I compiled this disk. It is not necessary to have the book or my styles to enjoy this disk, but your fun will definitely be enhanced if you do.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to buy a new (not used) book as there are many different editions of most fake books. The Norton Music fake disk is compatible only with most recent edition of the fake book. If you buy an used, older edition, all the songs in the disk will not match the songs in the book.
