This site contains Band-in-a-Box sequences to the chord progressions of many popular songs. Read the associated Memo file in Band-in-a-Box (click the Memo button to the right of the song title) for example song titles for the Band-in-a-Box sequence of the same name.
Each Band-in-a-Box sequence contains a chord progression only. There are no copyrighted melodies or lyrics in any of these sequences. The song titles are used only to identify a particular type of chord progression. Each sequence makes no attempt to copy any particular recording or arrangement of the song from which the chord progression was 'borrowed'. The song titles used to identify a particular chord progressions are not the only songs that use that chord progression. Conservation of storage space on my server limits me to noting only one or two titles per chord progression.
As far as I know* you may write your own original melody to any Band-in-a-Box sequenced chord progression in this site without violating any nation's copyright laws. I believe educators may use these Band-in-a-Box sequences with copyrighted melodies to teach their students under the fair use laws of most countries. I also believe musicians may use these chord progressions with copyrighted melodies in establishments that pay royalties to ASCAP, BMI, and other publishing rights organizations. According to US federal law, the fair use of a work "for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research" is not a copyright infringement. But several factors come into play in any determination of what is or isn't fair use: whether the work is commercial or intended for nonprofit educational purposes; the nature of the copyrighted work; how much of the work is used; and what effect the use has on the market value of the copyrighted work.
(* Note: I am neither a lawyer, nor am I legally qualified to give legal advice. If unsure, check with a professional.) Since this archive is available to the entire world, and copyright laws vary from country to country, you are responsible for using these sequences in accordance with your local copyright laws.
You may use any of these Band-in-a-Box file sequences in your web page(s) without paying royalties to Norton Music as long as they are unaltered and you provide credit and a link to Norton Music**. You also have permission to use my song title for the Band-in-a-Box file chord progression. If you use anyone else's song title you are responsible for all copyright clearances and/or royalty payments. (Norton Music cannot grant license for you to use anybody else's copyrighted material.)
It is understood that although you have permission to use these Band-in-a-Box files, Bob "Notes" Norton d/b/a Norton Music retains all copyright ownership and rights to these files.

PS My lawyer made me say all of this stuff.
